How does your FloorScore?

Our Amtico Rep came by this week and mentioned that their product has been certified by Greenguard and FloorScore.  We had heard of Greenguard before, but not FloorScore.

So what is it?  "The FloorScore program, developed by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) in conjunction with SCS tests and certifies flooring products for compliance with indoor air quality emission requirements adopted in California. Flooring products include vinyl, linoleum, non-PVC resilient flooring, wall base, and associated sundries." Source: http://www.scscertified.com/iaq/floorscore.html

Many of the other resilient flooring companies have the certification within their product lines... Armstrong World Industries, Jonhsonite, Mannington Mills, Congoleum Corporation...

What is LEED®?

So if you have been hanging around the construction or design community lately you might have heard the word LEED thrown around. Well being the interested designer I am I have decided to start researching this idea of LEED. The U.S. Green Building Council defines and describes LEED as, "(Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary, consensus-based standard to support and certify successful green building design, construction and operations. LEED is transforming the marketplace by providing a nationally recognized certification system to promote integrated, whole-building design practices in the building industry. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality."
